California, Feb 20, 1882 Sir Joseph Hooker Dear Sir, Our Senator, General Miller intends to introduce a bill into Congress this session with a view to the preservation of a large section of Sequoia forests of the Sierra on the Kaweah and Tule rivers, and I feel sure that a word from you on the importance of the bill would carry a grand pushing power and go far towards insuring the success of the effort.
