John Muir Esq Alhambra Cal September 19th 1904 Dear Sir Mr. George called on me a couple of weeks ago to find out when I could send you some interest and also regarding insurance. I told him the insurance was right up and that I would see you soon or write to you regarding the other. I would have preferred to see you personally but as we can not very well come up, I will try to acquaint you with my circumstances by mail. We find that it will not be possible to pay any interest before next May when my stock in the Building and Loan will mature when I will be able to start paying you, not only on the interest but principal as well, I will then have two houses clear that I now have to pay $25.00 per month on. The last 3 years has been very hard on us, you are likely aware of the fact that I have been six times in the hospital, last time about 6 weeks ago, and you may have an idea of what that means. I was compelled just before that happened to buy the saloon next to me and make it into a dwelling or move out myself, I paid well for it and spend more money to fix it up, since the close of the Refinery it has practically been empty as well as one of the other houses that itself mean a good deal to us.
