I have been very busy, almost stupidly so, of late, else I would have answered sooner. I have just got completed a rambling sketch of my first summer in the Sierra, some of which may prove to be worth while.br>
Glad you are taking an interest in the National Park.br>
I have heard from both Mr. Browne and Oom John, both busy and happy as usual. br>
I sympathize with you in your efforts to shake off the dust of the hospital and build a place of your own in the woods. Keep this thing in view and you will surely succeed ere long. br>
I shall look forward with pleasure to reading your article in the Century this summer.br>
As to the geological story you refer to, I was at Independence Lake, not far from Truckee, in the Sierra. A man whose name I have forgotten kept a tavern there for the accommodation of visitors who went to the lake to fish for trout. He asked me one day how that lake was made. I told him that it was a glacier lake, the basin of which had been
