A Bro Wm Mackay cousin to the Mackays of your acquaintance came from Scotland about 6 years ago lives 9 miles from Meaford is a farmer and quite a superior preacher he used to walk from home on Sunday morning and speak for 3/4ths of an hour most ably. Bro Sinclair generally leads not always satisfactorily. Fathers health holds out pretty well he is able to attend meeting pretty often and speaks frequently. We had 16 additions to our Baptist Church the result of three weeks meetings held by two elderly maiden ladies one from England the other from Auld Scotia’s shore. Their success with most people settles the question of their authority for the calling it is a strong argument in religion as well as politics. If the women were right the apostle must have been in error however the preaching was good and the converts genuine.

Peterboro July 11, 1875 Mr. John Muir Dear Friend your reply to my last of May 4th was duly received and has afforded us great pleasure to resume correspondence with such a long tome friend still I have shown it very poorly in thus delaying my response. I have been out-of-order for some time this spring. Lumbago was the trouble which allowed me to do anything else rather than sit down.
