[4] feelings by what they were when we were all around them. Sarah broke the circle first then you left us John and a third soon to follow. dear John perhaps we will never all meet around that same fireside (at one time) again. I [illegible] my greatest wish that we will meet an unbroken family at God's right hand. John and David and David's little ones included. John by the way you used to talk I didn't expect nor you either that you would be so home sick it surprised me some. but your Maggie as you are pleased to call her would like as well to be by you as you would like to have Write soon her when you are home sick to comfort you you may tell Miss Merrel if you like that I am glad you have a comforter who can fill my place so well I love all your good friends John they are so very kind to you I feel From your sis M[uir?] grateful to Mrs [Pelton?] for the kind invitation she has sent us. but I think perhaps under the present circumstances we had'nt better come so far although I think I would like it very much to see you and all the folks but I shall leave it to John (you know I want to consult his pleasure now) and you know we are all looking forward to spring when we expect to have you with us a good while when you are on your [way back?][1] [1860] Fountain Lake Dec. 8thMy Dear Brother I have waited I waited and wearied for that next letter you was to send before we wrote, until I was fairly out of patience, but I had the pleasure of reading one of yours dated Decm 5th to John Reid today Maggie has been over here since Monday and he called on his way over to Maggie Rogers to give them warning to be in attendance on that 496 certain day coming one week from Tuesday first, what a pity we could not have you here too, Remember your promise to me if your certain day ever comes I have not forgot it. I was very glad indeed to hear you were so strong and healthy and that the folks in the house were so very kind and agreeable but who would think you would be so lonesome John If you have not written do write soon
