[1][in margin: David has got his barn built & his hay into it he is very pleased about it I must say good bye again let me hear from you [sorry?] Sarah] Mound Hill August 21st /68My Dear Brother John Here is a letter that has been all the way to San Francisco and back again. I presume there is something in it new to you so off it goes again. Mother was here a few days ago and showed me the letter you sent her last. And the only one received from you (by any of us) since last March. Oh how anxiously we have all looked for a California letter in the months past your health being poor and the long silence we knew not what might have happened. And I assure you there has been many a tear shed and many a prayer offered for you. that you might be kept in all your ways and be brought home again. If you had only written one letter saying I have arrived safely and am well how much anxiety you might have saved us all. but enough of this. we have heard from you and are glad567
