[12 Mar 1867]Ind' Tuesday 12thDear mother I am still keeping well though still confined mostly to bed I do not suffer pain and am every way more comfortable than could be expected my friends are kind beyond my ability to writeI spend my time in thinking, sleeping and in hearing my friends read68my appetite is returning and in a few weeks I hope to be busy and [illegible]. I can see a little through the injured eye and it is not yet disfigured. Almost every day my employer visits me. They have built a new shop and have given me full charge of it so I will not have to work so hardKindest love to all J. Muir
