SIERRA CLUB,ACADEMY OF SCIENCES BUILDING,ROOM 51A.SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.Mr. John MuirMay 24th 1884MartinezDear Mr. MuirYour letter of the 21st is at hand and its contents noted. In talking with Mr.Olney he seemed to think that Judge Beatty was too busy a man to put on the Committee of Parks and Reservations. I would suggest the name of W. C. Belcher of the law firm of Mastick, Belcher and Mastick. He it a friend of Mr.Olney's and interested in the Club. You may know him personally as he is a person of considerable prominence.A letter from Mr.Johnson of the Century addressed to the Directors it at hand. He urges that we considermthe subject of recession and institute a popular movement in its favor.Mr.Olney and I talked over the best method and of presenting thismatter to the Directors so as to ascertain their sentiments. Hethought my suggestion good, that is to send a copy of theletter to each of the Directors calling for an expression ofopinion as to whether we should make definite moves in thismatter, of them decide on a meeting.A Directors meeting it to difficult, that this seems the only method; and with your approval I till carry it out.Should you be in towns on Saturday, I will meet you at the University Club about one o'clock.Yours truly[illegible]
