UNION PACIFIC RAILROAD COMPANY,EXECUTIVE OFFICES,ALEX. MILLAR, SECRETARY. 165BROADWAY.THOMAS PRICE, ASSISTANT SECRETARY. NEW YORK, April 7, 1915.Mr. John Muir,Martinez,California. My dear Mr. Muir:-I received on Saturday a copy of the first part of what I hope will eventually prove your completed "auto-biography"• I had, of course, read the various sections of it as they appeared in the Atlantic Monthly. I notice that all the criticisms appearing in the various magazines and newspapers around here are decidedly favorable, and an amateur like myself feels that he has nothing to say after reading all that the experts think about such a work. Because I liked it in sections, I am busy reading it again as a book, and I am enjoying it even more than I did the first time. It must be fine to write books that sell well, but it is infinitely finer to write books that sell well because they are good, and because they have a tendency to take people back to nature.I am very grateful to you for sending me a copy.Sincerely yours,PC-
