BUEL,ASSISTANT EDITOR.Mr. John Muir,Martinez, Cal.My dear Muir:-I thank you very much for your note about McAllister-, and also for the good news about the prospect of the Club taking up recession. 1 shall act upon your warning, and I shall also write a note to Senator Perkins to ask him about the parliamentary procedure in case recession should be favored in the Legislature. It is possible that a joint resolution of Congress will be necessary, declaring that in the event of recession of the Valley by the Legislature it should be merged into the National Park. Otherwise, California might recede and the Government not accept recession. This is a technical point to be considered.I see that McKenna is thought to be slated for the Cabinet. If 1 remember right, Dr._ the gentleman you sent to me who owns the road in the park, said that McKenna was all right on Yosemite matters; but one never knows what the obligations of politics may induce an otherwise respectable man to do; and I suppose McKenna will have the portfolio of the Interior Department. It might be well, before long, for you to see him and talk with him a little on the general need
