Via Giovan Battista Amici,Florence, 1 Feb., 1913Dear Friend,Probably I sent you this booklet at Christmas, I don't find a record & can no longer reply upon memory. It is perhaps no bad thing that Memory forsakes us sooner than Hope! But your memory, at any rate, is still vivid: witness your "Plunge into the Wilderness" (and into the Atlantic!), which here, in this foreign atmosphere, recalls some memorable evenings with you and fills me with nostalgia for California. Time is good to you: what life, grace, humor, pathos! This is as it should be,05369
