[First draft of letter, in note-book #59] [1901]Mrs. Eliza M. E. Hartley,Dear Mrs. H[artley]:I remember you very well, though I have wandered far and wide in the 20 or 25 years since I made your acquaintance in Sacramento. Those Sacramento lectures were the first and almost the last I ever delivered, and I am not a lecturer at all now. My time is all spent in studies in the wilderness or in writing.I am very glad to hear from you after all these years, and shall be happy to meet you again at the very first opportunity. Regretting [that] I can’t lecture, I am, with pleasant recollections,Very truly yours,J. M.01890
