German LloydSeptember 16th 1903.Dear Wife & Darlings, I wish you could be with me this morning on this fine steamship in this most wonderfully beautiful mountain gist harbor. Left Russia at Vladivostok Sep 3. worn out & starved out & poisoned out with 2 mos of R.R. travel & Russian food - Now I'm all right & getting fat - & am on my way to India to see the Himmalaya. I am alone & independent having parted from the Sargents a week ago at Shangahi — (Their aims & interests were so different from mine I should never have joined them.) We sail for Singapore in an hour or two, wh we will reach in about 4 days. At Singapore I will take a steamer for Calcutta. Thence in a few days I'll be far up the mountains near Darjeling.
