[in margin: RUJ c[illegible]] 80 Martinez, Sep 12, 1902Dear Mr JohnsonI'll not send you anything much if at all on the Kern Canon over 4000 words. If I cant squeeze it into that size I'll let some of the other mags have it. I've made no definite arrangement with Keith for sketches, nor will I. He went through the canon with me & made a number of sketches that I thought good. perhaps I'll get one or two from him to offer you, & if not [deemed?] available simply send them back to me. He never does this sort of work now except as friendly favors. His income now is seldom less than $50,000 a year Has more money than he knows what to do with. Yet paints most industriously.
