[letterhead]March 18Prof. John Muir,Martinez, Cal.Dear Sir;At the meeting of the Unitarian Club of this City,to be held on the evening of Monday March 25,at the Rooms of the Merchants Club, #222 Sansome Street, there will be discussed the general topics of the Forests, the Mountains and the Rivers of California. It is the easrnest desire of the Council,as well as of myself, that you be present as the guest of the Club. I know your dislike for public speaking, and shall not therefore urge you and shall feel strictly bound not to call upon you unless you consent; but should you feel disposed, it would be esteemed a high privilege if we could listen to a few minutes talk from you on the Mountains. I will send you a programme within a day or two,in which you will note that we have taken the liberty of02677
