(COPY -Original in possession of Mrs. Florence Merriam Bailey)Martinea, California,Dec. 29, 1900.My dear Mr. and Mrs. Bailey:I was glad to get your kind cheery letters, and now wish I could look in with New Year's greetings to the home you have made. You have had so much experience in home-making this year and many others - a new one every summer day, I am sure this winter one must be very snug and squirrelish and enormously rich in spoils of the wilderness. I wonder if it needs anything from this side the country that I could send. If so pray let me know.In the meantime I most heartily wish you happy New Year and good luck and am,Ever faithfully yours,(Signed) JOHN MUIR02817
