Martinez. Cal. July 8,1900.My dear MerriamWe are all glad to hear yon are coming to California again and that you will come to see us. I'll try to make a trip into the mountains with you. I'm dying this hot weather for want of exercise and ice.We are all glad to get the photograph of your grand old father and sorry to learn of his death. I shall always regret that I did not renew my acquaintance with him made thirty years ago. I well remember the kind interest he took in the small humble beginnings of my work in the Sierra and the letters he wrote me.Had I known what others had written - just what ground they covered - I might easily have made my glacial article longer. But few will care to read more.Ever yours truly,JOHN MUIR02704
