[in margin: I am sending the M.S. & photographs with this.]succeeded in getting a friends article into any magazine. Have you tried the Land of Sunshine? I have spent two days on your two articles. The one on [Graybirds?] is best. My criticism you will learn by the changes I have proposed. All enclosed thus ( ) I would omit. Many of your paragraphs are too short. Avoid big uncommon words; be sparing of superlatives, & never interrupt narrative with long philosophical or sentimental digressions however just. They should only be hinted or lightly touched in. But all this you will learn. What is your latest news of Mrs Carr Ned promised to write but has failed to send a word. Last I heard she was at Paso Robles. Remember with kindest regards to your father & mother & Lottie, & with best wishes for your success, I amCordially Yours John Muir
