Martinez, March 28/01My dear Merriam -How are you and the Baileys? How have you got through the winter? Hard at work no doubt. Every day I'm looking for the Alaska book. How sad and wise you will be ere you get all the Harriman volumes off your hands.I'm still working on the last chapter of my forest book. For illustrations I would like to use three or four of the Harriman Curtis photos. Some time when writing to Mr. H. on book work I wish you would ask permission to reproduce them.Remember me to the Baileys.Ever yoursJOHN MUIRWhere are you going next summer? Can you let me have a few telling photos of Sierra birds and beasts? bears, squirrels, chipmunks, neotoma, quail, grouse, woodpeckers etc. etc. etc. for illustrations?02851
