[20?]Martinez, March 14, 1893.My dear Mr Johnson.I was greatly surprised yesterday when I made the discovery that Mr Warren Olney the Vice President of the Sierra Club is a friend of John P. Irish! And I have good reason to believe that he is working for Irish’s appointment to the office of Land Commissioner. I think he has just written to Smith the new Sec of the Interior in his favor. He told me yesterday that he was going to write. I told him what I thought of Irish & how he had [treated?] you & Yosemite, He replied that all this was shameful nevertheless he had many good qualities etc, etc. I have called a meeting of the directors of the club to draw up an address to Noble recognizing the glorious forest work he has done & thanking him
