2celebrated [hag?] pen has I understand been abolished, many lines of fencing removed, & things generally are better managed. Still I hear nothing of the appointment of a reputable landscape gardener to lay out & manage the groves & meadows. The saddle & carriage horses the company claim are no longer turned loose in the valley to pasture Still I suppose the unskillful grubbing & trimming goes on as before. I have again taken up the Alaska articles & will try to do something with them though the big subject keeps running beyond magazine bounds. Thanks for the invitation to visit you will sometime. The Appletons have written twice asking for a book on mountaineeringEvery Cordially Yours John Muir
