[3]that night marked an era in my life & whatever from the pen of John Muir has fallen under my eye, I have read with a very peculiar interest. It was only a few weeks since that I learned that you are still in California & living at Martinez. I too am now at home here, & pastor of a little church in San Sorenzo. In connection with my work we are now having a course of lectures. My friend Mr [Geo. Dickie?] has already given one on the “Modern Steamship” & is to speak again on the “Modern Warship”. Mr E. M. D. Johnstone also is to lecture on his recent trip to “Mexico. Pres.01561[4]Jordan & Prof Barnard are the others. You see the point to which I am coming. Will Mr Muir crown it all with a lecture on address or a talk, formal or informal, on some mountaineering experience, or region, or subject, of which he is our prophet? I shall count it, as we all shall, a thing to be remembered for a life time, with joy & gratitude. May I ask you to reply as soon as may be convenient, & to say yes to this rather presumptuous request, from an unknown but already greatly indebted friendF. B. Perkins Pastor Union Christian Ch.01561
