[in margin: Notman]John Muir EsqMartinez California[letterhead]4th January 1897Dear Sir,I was duly favored with a letter from your sister Miss Anne Muir of date 25th November with the Discharge in favor of the Trustees of the late Mr. David Gilrye which was all in order. Mr. Combe took in hand the selling of the Glasgow & South Western Railway [long?] stock, but unfortunately owing to the high rate of Bank discount speculation in stock of this kind has been checked and the stock has gone back in price. The stock we now have to sell was not many months ago quoted at £160 and is now at £154 altho the half yearly dividend is due in the beginning of 02209
