23rd September, 1889.My dear Muir:I thank you very much for your attention to my telegram. You know we print nearly six weeks in advance of our issue, and I did not want to delay the Yosemite business later than the December number if possible to avoid it. I hope what you say will be direct and vigorous; it need not be comprehensive.As I have already said, we should certainly like to have you write the paper on Kings River Canon, and then we can print the two papers in successive numbers of the Magazine. Whatever you do, do not leave it too long before beginning it. We can print them sometime during the next year; the sooner the better.I regret to say that Central Park has not escaped the epidemic of attack upon public reservations. It is probably to be invaded for the Worlds Fair.Yes, I have had two or three letters from Robinson which go beyond anything I have yet seen in the way of over-statement. I shall carefully avoid leaning on him in print, though the materials he has collected are indispensable.I thank you very much for the photograph of the children, which is altogether lovely. I will try to send you one of my chicks in exchange before long. Meantime I send you a little0/379
