01367Grand Hotel, S.F.July 14, 1989.My dear WandaYour letter to me was very short but very delightful & charming & the illustrations at the end very original & fine. I wish I could see you tonight though you went to bed long ago & no doubt are asleep for it is now midnight & I will see you in a day or two for my writing is nearly done. I see very few people in my room & speak only about three words a day to anybody though there are so many people in San Francisco I never go out of my room except when I go to my meals. But though I am lonesome I see a good deal of myself for there are five mirrors in my room, two of them large enough to give my whole length. Once when I was going to my dinner I saw seven little monkeys in a birdcage all huddled close together to keep warm they were the smallest monkeys I ever saw, not half as big as a cottontail rabbit & all the seven not half as big as Brownie. & yet their
