Martinez, Feb. 17, 1889.Dear Mrs. Carr:I will do the best I can about the return of the photographs, but fear some of them may be lost. I have been trying to ge back many of may pencil sketches without success so far. That was a grand booming train of "cars" you had lately. I didn't know there were so many brothers. The Doctor must have enjoyed their visit very much and lived the early morning days over again.Wanda has just recovered from scarlet fever and I have had anxious weeks of nursing. Little Helen was taken to Grandpa's by her mother and has escaped the contagion so far. I am now in the old house alone waiting for weather and sulphur to sweeten things when the family may venture back. Had a good time on Rainier.Cordially yours,John Muir
