MartinezJan. 13, 1890Dear Mr Johnson,That is a pretty big block of mountains you have indicated for our article. I fear the description will seem lean & scrawny, however I will gladly do the best I can with it hoping to call attention to its value as our grand "Central Park" in the Sierra. There will be no lack of sketches or photographs for illustrations. Keith has some Tuolumne Canon sketches & some of mine can be fixed up perhaps, photographs of the Big Meadows & the adjacent can be had, but of the interesting region about the head of the north fork of the San Joaquin only my poor pencil sketches are available as far as I know.
