[1][letterhead]Sep. 9 1895Dear Mr MuirI have just had a visit from my friend Rennie who returned from his Californian trip about a couple of months ago and he tells me how very kind you were to him and how much he enjoyed your stories & his stay under your hospitable roof. I only wish it had been my luck to [illegible] with him. The next best thing to hope for, is that the attraction of the old country will soon bring you to Auld Reekie again.02020[2]I have just returned from a climbing holiday in Switzerland and managed to ascend half a dozen of the giants of the Alps the Matterhorn & Rothhorn among others. I must confess I expected to find them more difficult than they were, for beyound being a trifle longer I found in the climbs nothing stiffer than what I had been accustomed to at home.
