[1]Portage May 4th 1889Dear DavidYour letter of April 16th containing the prescription arrived safely it proved to be the very thing required, as the pain and disagreable feeling has gradualy ceased - except in my shoulder and that is still rubbed every night. My general health is now as good as usual I now take long walks or rides and enjoy them very much[2]I thank you very much for both of the prescriptions you have sent me as they were just what was needed. I had a letter from John last week he writes that he intended to make a trip to Wis - this summer but scarlet fever and other maladies had ccost both his work on the Ranch, and also on the Book - for weeks the Publishers have been calling impatiently for copy, now he thinks he will not be able to leave home but will make an extra effort to
