took a bad cold the first day, as that I could not leave town for a few days, but she is pretty well now. the rest of us are all well. Anna is at home this winter I get pretty easily [lived?], and could not get along without her, but she is taking music lessons from Mr. Rogers and getting along finely. George and Celia are attending school the teacher this term is Elixa Rounds. I suppose you will not have heard that her sister Carrie was married on New Years day to Andrew Thompson (Scotch), also George M[illegible] to Susan Allen, the same day. Tell me how you spent Christmas, and what you saw of [underlined: Santa], he was very good to me, my bigest present, being a very nice Florence serving machine Have you heard from John lately & my last letter stated that he was about to start for Oakland, I have heard since, that is his address now. I fully expected to see you before you left Portage in summer and was much disappointed but I suppose there was no help for it, under the circumstances. You must excuse my being so long in writing and please accept this small remembrance of Christmas. tie it round your neck, and remember [while?] [illegible], though long in coming you have my [underlined: best] wishes for the coming year and many more May Heaven’s best blessings be yours. lovingly Sarah
