[1][letterhead]Augt 10th 1897My dear Professor Muir,We returned yesterday from the Yosemite, leaving left one day earlier as we found we could do so by early rising and long stageing. We took the Eagle Point Trail one day and the Glacier Point Trail the next day and did the drive in the valley on the afternoon of our arrival so we have done very well for the time we had to spare. The Yosemite is certainly very grand; El Capitan and the Half Dome are superb. The falls are beautiful, the Bridal Veil being the most delicate and02328[letterhead]2exquisite I have ever seen. The drive from Raymond to Warooad is the most uninteresting and disagreeable I ever experienced but the grand views from the Trails we took repays one. I cannot say how much we all regret not seeing you, in fact we felt as if we have missed one of the great features of our trip, but if you come East you must give us a couple of days of your time at Morristown, as we all long to see you again. While in Portland we met Mr. Geo. H. Haines whose card I enclose, he took us personally to Fairmount, the heights 1200 feet02328
