[2]- be glad to see you both - After much moving we now begin to feel - that we are settled in Portage we moved to the smallest house we owned - but we had an additional room put up - so we are quite comfortable - Joanna is at home this summer - but Anna is teaching in Caledonia - we expect Mary home in about five weeks We had a letter from John in April telling us about the great earthquake that took place in March. I expect you have seen accounts of it in the papers the motion of the earth had not entirely subsided when he wrote - [3]I do not allow myself to think often of our dear old home - it seemed [illegible] to leave the place that we had built and planned and planted - but time brings many changes - and will yet bring greater changes to us all - I trust we will be found ready for the great change from time to eternity - this ought to be our chief care - but how often forgot - - Margt. and Sarah and David with their families are in their usual health - Hoping to hear from you soon I pray God to bless you and keep you at all times - from you affectionate Mother
