Sunday noonDear Mrs Carr I would like to saunter with you to the buckeye but confess I dont feel like plashing into the middle of this Buck masters lake of lassies I would rather revel with the bees in the bloom of strentzels by orchards, but in a day or two I am going to take snuff, Shasta snow-dust & therefore cannot have either buckeye or apple bloom. I am going to the summit of Mt Shasta [deleted: next] sometime this week to be gone eight or ten days & I suppose it will then be too late for Diablo at least Louie’s letter is a marvellous piece of scribery almost fairy in fineness & daintiness.
