[in margin: Father is very well but almost all [illegible] in bed he complains of great weakness in his back and limbs. He sends love to you and says "tell Mary I [illegible] hear [illegible] her and all of them"]Kansas City, Mo. Jan. 30, 1884Dear Sister Mary:Your letter came today and had I allowed my-self to entertain any unkind thoughts about your long delay I would certainly reproached myself severely now that I know the cause but I felt there must be a reason or tried to think so all the time and when I write the [postal?] it was only because I could not help it.But dear! dear! what could I say to express my [illegible] partly in all your [illegible] catching and [illegible](4) I think of it, I think it depends some on how people live, and in what part of the city, no doubt [illegible] an how places it is [illegible]but we have a [illegible] in that respect. Now I suppose you are smiling to yourself at all my long story and I supposed it is all for nothing but I somehow felt [illegible] to write what I have.So little [illegible] is pretty, well, again, how glad I am, my heart always warms at the mention of him. I hope you will manage to build up again soon. Did I tell you what a time [Walter?] had with [illegible] last [winter?] or carbuncles I could say. they came one after another on [the?] back of his neck right where his collar weighted to [illegible] and oh how he suffered, [illegible] this [illegible] and had to go with his head down. But felt all the time that he must be at the office if it killed him. And this [illegible] when he was having his hardest [illegible] financially and by the way, he had a very bad [illegible] then too. Besides he had to do chores and help me with the work some, father too had to be wait [illegible]as you [illegible] sick, so I fuss [illegible] [could ?] sympathize with [illegible Willis?] now as Willis with him. He has had [illegible] good health since then. Well you certainly have had plenty of help through all your trouble which is something to be thankful for. My [illegible] is pretty [illegible] sick just now and I do not know but that she will have to go home.[illegible] is wakling now, just ["fairly" inserted later] started out. she is so busy it has taken her a long time. [illegible] Many [illegible] I shall be very anxious to hear a [illegible] occasionally.[in margin: Love to [illegible] and yourself and the little boys. tell [illegible] I send him a kiss as big as the one he sent me.]
