[2]I hope you and Emma and baby are all well we are all as well as usual here. Mary has not got home yet but we expect her any day. Sarah had a letter from John yesterday dated June 7th he had just returned from visiting – Mount Lyell and Mount Dana and had camped out on snow 5 feet deep but a few hours of [3]travel brought him to plants and flowers and sunshine – he got his face badly scorched by the sun on the glacier. Nothing further has transpired about us leaving Portage – only we hear a great deal about California lately but our home here is very comfortable – It seems a long time since any of us had a letter from you – I do wish you or Emma would write soon and let us know-
