Monday,[Oakland, Apr. 19, 1875?]Dear Louie,We were all disappointed in the loss of your father's lecture last week. Capt. Wright, Lecturer of the State Grange being here to go with us. Next Friday I am invited to meet the Normal School in the city and go through the Mechanics Fair, while Dr. Carr will be in Sacramento with the Pioneers. Will your father not be there?In your letter you spoke of Dr. Carr's coming to Martinez. If you think the M[artinez] people would care to hear an educational address, he will be happy to speak there. He wishes to be at some of the county fairs, State Fair, and will sprinkle in other exercises where he can until the 20th of October. Tell your father it is pretty certain that a large amount of the University funds are locked up in the Bank Of California.I have not heard whether your papa is expected this week, hope we shall not miss the lecture.In haste, with love to all.Jeanne C. Carr.Tuesday eve.Dear Louie:You see how I am snubbed, in trying to get John Muir to accompany me to your house this week. I sent your letter, hoping it would draw him, but it is even as you see. There is the Queen of Buckeyes to mourn also that this worshipper appears not at the altar.Dr. Carr has gone to Sacramento to attend the meeting of the Medical Society, and I have just come back from Mills Seminary, where I talked to the girls about "Music, a spiritual Language" -I fear to ears that could not hear. Love to your blessed ones - of all kinds fromJeanne Carr.I find I cannot go myself on account of Dr. C's absence.
