Moat House, Dumfries [Scotland], 14th Nov. 1894.My dear Cousin:I am quite ashamed at being so long in answering your last kind letter, which I was so pleased to receive. But I went and had my photograph taken two months ago and have expected to get them every say so that I might enclose you one. But they have never come yet, I'll send you one, if ever they do. Thank you so much for your two dear little girls,” I am very proud of them, and have them on my bedroom table beside yours, and I feel so happy in having so many friends. It just wants Mrs. Muir to make it complete. I hope she won't think I am greedy, as so many of our English think of the Scotch.Poor Mrs. Lunam has never got her photo of the bairns yet; it has gone astray somewhere, nor Pic[turesque] Cal[ifornia] either. I am sorry, as she is so anxious for anything from you and would prize it so much. The Hays have been receiving theirs all right. So we will hope you won't have any more trouble about them. I saw a very favourable review of your book in the “Scotsman” newspaper a week or so ago. I shall be delighted to have any work of yours. I'm afraid you will find us rather troublesome. Young Maggie and I often talk of some day paying you a visit. I doubt Miss McKie is too old now for so long a journey. She is in Edinburgh just now. Her only brother is going to be married on Wed., 21st of this month. He is 64 years of age and the bride is above 50. neither been married before. So no one can think they are taking the leap without mature consideration. Mr. Luney would tell you about our meeting such a nice lady and gentleman from America when we were at Oban. I often wonder if you are wandering about the mountains now. They will all be covered with snow and very grand. I should like to see them. We have had no snow yet, but a great deal of rain, “water, water everywhere.”I hope to go to Dunbar about Christmas. I heard from them yesterday. They are well. I hope your little girl is keeping well. Will they, with Mrs. Muir, accept my love. I live in the hope of seeing them in Scotland sometime or other, and showing myself as the only “Gilrye” left.
