Monday May 23, 181. 8 A.M.Dear Louie; we are just passing St George Island, steaming quickly along the West shore among a vast multitude of birds that are filling the air & covering the water for miles The island is about 10 miles long 500 ft high with sheer bluffs facing the sea. – No sign from here of then innumerable seals that in a month or two will cover the rocks. In 3 or 4 hours we will be at St Paul Island where we will drop anchor & remain until 7 or 8 oclock this evening. Be sure you do not forget Sam Williams, Upham will give you two or three hundred dollars of Scribner money with which to pay Mrs. C. L. Hooper, 548 Caladonia Avenue, Oakland Cala.
