[letterhead]San Francisco, Novemb 6 1882John Muir Esq.My Dear Friend;I delayed making an acknowledgement [by?] note for the box of grapes hoping to get time to run up to Martinez and thank you in person. But as I see no [illegible] of getting off just now, let me say that the grapes came to hand and a new attractive assortment I never saw. The bright colored leaves made them more attractive. Oh that I had a vineyard – a few acres [where?] the everlasting [illegible] and din of making newspapers would not be known. Some day I hope to see you and yours. How the [days go by?] each filled up with [deleted word] strain and work! Thanks for a reminder that there is something better than newspapers in this worldTruly Your Friend [illegible] [Bartlett?]. 01082
