[in margin: Bidwell Papers Bancroft Library]San Francisco. July 1st 1887.My dear Mrs BidwellWe thank you for your kind invitation to Ohio. It came while I was away from home & therefore too late to be available But anyhow we could not have all left the old ranch at the same time No visit however could give me greater pleasureI was so fortunate as to see the General the other day in full flesh & stature not diminished in the least & still full of [melonography & eriogonae.?]The White cone of Shasta looms into the sky whenever I think of Ohio How many pleasant memories cluster about itI am trying to close away the ranch
