Martinez, May 22/97My dear Annie,I take pleasure in sending today your share of Grandfather's money The trustees sent the whole sum £1903, 10s.8D to me to distribute. & I have just returned from the city with the Draft. I had a long letter from Mr Notman explaining the delay. It was caused by Mr Comb who refused to sell the R.R. stock, until he was allowed compensation, & the other trustees had to threaten prosecution & show my letter exposing the fraud before he would yield. He has already been overpaid, & still holds one half years interest, which we will never get. Needless to say, had you not written to him you would have had your money six months ago. Now you will have to send to each of us one eighth of the interest Comb sent you. David is lifting the mortgage from your house. Hope you'll take good care of your money.Ever Your brother John.
