[2]to John C Muhuffy - and John Madden bought the north eighty - and John Turner bought the west eighty - so on the 19th day of March we bid farewell to our dear old home - and came to Portage We rented a house on Cook street as our own houses were all taken up. We expect to move again very soon to one of our own houses - and when we get settled in will be glad to have you and your wife make us a visit - Your father had a letter from John a week ago - he is still writing and well - he has been writing about the Yosemite [3]for the New York Tribune - Anna intends to teach in Caledonia this summer - Your father is talking about going East - and I do not know whether it will only be a visit or not - he has not decided, Joanna thinks she would like to go with him - the rest of the family are well, but surprised that you have not wrote to any of them - I am glad to know that your business prospects are good - and I trust the Lord will gird you, with strength and grace for the battles of life that may lie before you. May you come off at last more than conquror
