Crete, Neb., May 13th, 1883.Dear John and Louie:I guess by this time you will think me naughty.I have been so long in writing, but I have been looking a little for a letter from you.I hope you are both well and how is dear little Wanda? What is she up to this minute? Give her a kiss for me, and ask her if she remembers her Auntie M.There is a neighbor's little one comes here, the only child of an only son. She is a dear wee thing, and always makes me think of my little niece.John had a letter from Uncle David last evening. He has been quite poorly for some time. Is better and about, but not at all well. He has not given up the notion of coming to Neb. He is trying to sell out.How nice it would be to have Sarah for a neighbor.Jessie had a letter from Carrie Muir last week. She is teaching school, and says she is going to save her money and come to see us.I dohope her father will manage to come too next summer, and I think that perhaps sister Annie will come and maybe Joanna. And when are you going to start? What a jolly happy meeting we would have if you all come at one time. I am looking forward to it.We are having a very windy rather backward spring this year. We have had some pleasant warm weather, but cold every now and again.I keep comparing it with Cal. [at the time we left you) and it does not do. It has made it look so flat and rather bare and backward here, but some kinds of trees are nicely leaved out now, and the country looks much better. John is quite busy with his sheep -- they have shearers. He talks of coming to see you sometime.I am pretty well, but have been very busy since I got home. It was a while before "I could buckle right down to it" so as to accomplish much after resting all winter, but I was disappointed in getting help and as the children's clothes were all wearing out I have been pretty well driven. Annie is not at all strong, and Jessie cannot use her eyes much. But we are making some headway, and I feel encouraged.I think I am going to be better and reap the benefit of your very great' kindness.I am glad you had your portion of rain, I hope you had plenty.I think everything must be beautiful with you now.And now with love to you all, also your father and mother, I am,Your affectionate sister,Maggie [Margaret Muir Reid]I would be glad to hear from you both.
