William and Maymie Kimes Annotation

""Walk the sequoia woods at any time of the year, and you will say they are the most beautiful on earth."" In this long article, Muir chronicles his exploration of the Sierra south from Yosemite in company with his mule Brownie, giving his perceptive observations not only pertaining to the sequoia, its size, conditions and extent of growth, effect of fire, etc., but also many delightful details of his adventures. Portions of his scholarly presentation to the American Association for the Advancement of Science (no. 63) are included at the beginning and end.
