William and Maymie Kimes Annotation
With the assistance of many diagrams, Muir discoursed on the formation of Yosemite Valley by the action of glaciers, dissenting from the widely-accepted Whitney theory of subsidence. With his Scottish humor, he inquired where ""the little granite plug went to that fell out?"" His lecture was enthusiastically received and later more than one hundred people joined him on a climb to Upper Yosemite Falls.
