While in the Philippines, Muir, in company with Captain Ahearn, a noted naturalist, visited Limao in the Bataan province, where the forestry bureau had an experiment station. Upon his return, Muir stated that he "had a red-letter day, having seen strange plants and trees of greatest interest.''
