William and Maymie Kimes Annotation
These letters reveal Muir's ardent enthusiasm for the Yosemite Sierra as well as his great admiration for Emerson. Each letter contains a lively and persuasive invitation to "Come to our mountain fountains." In his first letter, delivered to Emerson at the hotel in Yosemite Valley, Muir writes: "I invite you to join me in a months worship with Nature in the high temples of the great Sierra Crown beyond our holy Yosemite. It will cost you nothing save the time & very little of that for you will be mostly in Eternity." Three additional letters are mentioned but not printed.
