In the article "John Muir and Ralph Waldo Emerson in Yosemite�" by Samuel T. Farquhar, Muir describes his meeting with Emerson in after-dinner remarks, following the occasion when Harvard University conferred upon him an honorary M.A. degree. This is a reprint of no. 366, pp. 253-255. The story is completed by a reprint of no. 237, pp. 133-136. Also included in the article is a long letter Emerson wrote to Muir, dated February 5, 1872, in which Emerson exclaims, "I have everywhere testified to my friends, who should also be yours, my happiness in finding you, the right man in the right place-in your mountain tabernacle...."
