From his experiences on several exploratory trip in the Sierra with Mr. Clark, Muir writes "Galen Cleark was the best mountaineer I ever met�and on eof the kindest and most amiable." Muir's long residence in Yosemite Vally gave him numerous opportunities to observe that Galen Clark's "kindness to Yosemite vistitors and mountaineers was marvelously constant and uniform and brought him the sincere respect of all he met." In addition, Muir found him to be "one of the most sincere tree lovers" that he had ever known.
