William and Maymie Kimes Annotation

In this three-column Sunday feature article, ""Save the Meadow Lark"" a number of prominent people voice their concern. John Muir writes: ""Better far, and more reasonable, it would be to burn our pianos and violins for firewood than to cook our divine midgets of song larks for food .... The work of saving them by creating public opinion in their favor will have to go on year after year, and I hope I may still do something to help.""
